Sony A7 III · FTP transferSend photos live from your Sony A7 III
Set up FTP transfer once and every photo you shoot reaches Photomitra and your guests' phones in seconds.
Works with: Sony A7 III (ILCE-7M3), firmware Ver. 4.00 or later. Last checked 16 October 2026.
Before you start
Open Photomitra on your phone or laptop and go to QR & cameras: it shows your Server, Port and your team's camera login. Keep it open while you set up the camera.
Sony A7 III FTP setup, step by step
- 1
Update the firmware
Sending while you shoot came with firmware Ver. 4.00. If your A7 III is older, update it from Sony's support site first. The update clears old FTP settings.
- 2
Connect the camera to Wi-Fi
MENU → Network → Wi-Fi Settings → Access Point Set. → pick the venue Wi-Fi or your phone hotspot → enter the password → OK. The A7 III uses 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only.
- 3
Enter the server
MENU → Network → FTP Transfer Func. → Server Setting → Server 1 → Destination Settings. Host Name: the Server shown in Photomitra (QR & cameras). Secure Protocol: Off. Port: the Port shown there. There is no passive setting: the A7 III always uses passive mode.
- 4
Enter your camera login
Still in Server 1: Directory Settings → Specify Directory: /cam01 (the next camera /cam02, and so on). User Info Settings → User and Password: your team's camera login. Then pick Server 1 under Server Setting.
- 5
Turn on FTP
FTP Transfer Func. → FTP Function: On. FTP Power Save: Off, so the camera stays connected between shots. The FTP icon appears on the shooting screen once it connects.
- 6
Send small JPEGs
MENU → Camera Settings1 → File Format: RAW & JPEG, JPEG Image Size: S (6.0M), JPEG Quality: Standard. Then FTP Transfer Func. → RAW+J Trans. Trgt.: JPEG Only. Your RAW file stays full size on the card.
- 7
Turn on automatic sending
FTP Transfer Func. → Automatic Transfer: On. Take 2–3 test shots: they appear in your Photomitra dashboard within seconds. Videos are never sent over FTP.
Sony A7 III setup: questions
My A7 III has no Automatic Transfer.
It came with firmware Ver. 4.00. Update the camera from Sony's support site, then set up FTP again: the update clears the old FTP settings.
The camera can't find my hotspot.
The A7 III only uses 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi with WPA2 security. Switch your phone hotspot to 2.4 GHz (on iPhone: Maximise Compatibility) and search again.
Why send small JPEGs?
A full-size JPEG can take a minute on a hotspot, so photos queue up and reach guests late. Photomitra shrinks every photo for guests anyway, and your RAW stays full size on the card.
